Balancing a busy career with child custody arrangements

On Behalf of | Oct 30, 2021 | Child Custody

When one divorced parent spends more time in a career than the other, it doesn’t mean the career-centered parent needs to give up a fulfilling relationship with his or her children. Many divorced individuals in Colorado can benefit from learning how to manage their careers alongside their child custody rights. Often, divorced working parents who want to spend more time with their kids have to be willing to make certain adjustments to their busy lives.

The best intentions

If working parents make the decision to have more quality time with their kids but don’t follow through with actionable change, their children may suffer as a result. So parents should avoid asking for any time off from work if they won’t be able to truly provide for their children. Showing up when promised can be very emotionally beneficial to one’s children, so keeping promises after receiving additional time away from work could prove invaluable long-term.

Creative ways to help make children the priority

Another way some working parents can ultimately spend more time with their kids is to become more organized at the office, freeing up precious time. Second, finding a way around attending all afterhours work meetings can definitely help the cause. Finally, adopting a give-and-take approach with the other parent can also be beneficial in maximizing one’s time directly involved with the children.

Child custody issues are typically among the most emotional when it comes to divorce in Colorado. An attorney may be able to provide advice to a working parent on making objective decisions regarding what is in a child’s best interests. Most importantly, a lawyer may be able to help a client to negotiate in good faith to come to a mutually agreeable child custody arrangement.
